An AAAA record is an IP in the newly released IPv6 format and it is made up of eight sets of hexadecimal digits, in contrast to the IPv4 IPs, which include four groups of digits in between 1 and 255. An example of an IPv6 address would be 3014:0d43:23a3:2354:1320:8f3b:2635:3254 and with this format the number of IPs that can be created is many times bigger than the number of the IPv4 addresses. Each and every domain has its hosting server IP as a record and in essence, that record informs the domain where the Internet site for it is located. Depending on the system the provider employs, the record is going to be called A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6). Changing this record allows you to host your site with one provider and your e-mails with a different one, so if you decide to use this kind of redirection to point a domain to a server that uses an IPv6 address, you will have to set up an AAAA record for it.

AAAA Records in Cloud Hosting

If you are using a service with a third-party service provider and you've got to set up an AAAA record to direct a domain name or a subdomain to their system, you are going to be able to do that with just a few clicks in the Hepsia CP, supplied with all of our cloud hosting solutions. Once you log in, you need to visit the DNS Records section in which you are going to find all the records for any domain or subdomain hosted in the account. Setting up a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type from a drop-down menu, that is to be AAAA in this case, and then inserting the value, or the actual IPv6 address, within a text box. As an additional option you can modify the TTL value (Time To Live), which outlines how long the record is live after you edit it or erase it in the future. The new AAAA record is going to be live in only an hour and will propagate worldwide a few hours later, so the hostname for which you have created it will start pointing to the new server.
